PIBS 503 – Research Responsibility and Ethics

This course will be taught in the fall term with sessions running September – December.

Course materials including case studies and podcast lectures are available online through CANVAS, and discussion will take place in small-group sessions offered at many different times throughout the semester.

PIBS 504 – Rigor & Reproducibility Training

This course is taught in winter term with sessions running January – April.

Course materials are available online through CANVAS, and discussion will take place in one two-hour session offered at many different times throughout the semester.

PIBS 550 – Biomedical Innovation & Entrepreneurship I

This 2 credit course is taught in fall term with sessions running September – December.

Biomedical Innovation & Entrepreneurship I (PIBS 550) is intended for graduate students* from science and engineering majors who are interested in careers in the biomedical industry and are seeking exposure to the fundamentals of life science entrepreneurship.

* undergraduates may take PIBS 550 with prior approval of the instructor

PIBS 750 – Biomedical Innovation & Entrepreneurship I & II

This 3 credit course is taught in fall term with sessions running September – December. Includes the PIBS 550 lecture sessions plus experiential learning sessions and a group project.

Biomedical Innovation & Entrepreneurship II (PIBS 750) is teaches innovation and entrepreneurship concepts based on the FFMI Program Accelerating Commercialization Education (PACE) curriculum. PIBS 750 is offered exclusively for graduate level students from science and engineering programs.

PIBS 721: Professional Research Presentation

This course is not currently being offered.

PIBS 721 builds skills in written, visual, and oral communication, focusing mainly on professional scientific presentations.  Students will create an elevator pitch, abstract, poster, 90-second “data blast,” and 15-minute talk describing their own research. Students will present their work to their peers and will give and receive constructive feedback.

PIBS 722 – Writing and Publishing Scientific Manuscripts

This course is taught in winter term with sessions running January – April.

PIBS 722 is a writing course for PhD students, particularly during their third year or beyond. In order to participate, students must have a project that is ready to be written up into a manuscript. By the end of the course, students will have a polished manuscript ready for submission.
